چکیده
Review Questions: What are the prognostic indicators predictive of chemotherapy-induced febrile neutropenia outcomes (favourable and unfavourable) among adult cancer patients? Background: Febrile Neutropenia (FN) is a major complication for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.1 It is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Standard patient care includes prolonged hospitalization and parenteral antimicrobial therapy.2

Comparing the Efficacy of Ceftazidime and Meropenem in Treatment of Febrile Neutropenia in Pediatric Patients with Cancer
Abstract Background In cancer patients, various infections were developed due to severe neutropenia resulted from chemotherapy. Ceftazidime is commonly used as monotherapy of cancer patients with fever and neutropenia. Meropenem is a new carbapenem with more extended antibacterial spectrum including anaerobes. It provides better coverage against gram positives. This trial compared the efficac...
متن کاملRisk models for predicting chemotherapy-induced neutropenia.
Neutropenia and its complications, including febrile neutropenia, are major dose-limiting toxicities of systemic cancer chemotherapy. A number of studies have attempted to identify risk factors for neutropenia and its consequences to develop predictive models capable of identifying patients at greater risk for such complications and to guide more effective and cost-effective applications of the...
متن کاملAssessment of procalcitonin as a diagnostic marker of infection in pediatrics with cancer complicated by fever and neutropenia
Background: Febrile neutropenia is still one of the most important complications of treatment in cancer patients. These patients become prone to infection and consequently higher mortality and morbidity. This study aimed to determine the accuracy of serum procalcitonin (PCT) level in the detection of infection in pediatric cancer patients complicated with febrile neutropenia. Materials and Met...
متن کاملProphylactic antibiotics or G-CSF for the prevention of infections and improvement of survival in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
BACKGROUND Febrile neutropenia (FN) and other infectious complications are some of the most serious treatment-related toxicities of chemotherapy for cancer, with a mortality rate of 2% to 21%. The two main types of prophylactic regimens are granulocyte (G-CSF) or granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factors (GM-CSF); and antibiotics, frequently quinolones or cotrimoxazole. Important curren...
